Fort Island Trail Beach Field Trip Announced
Citrus County Audubon Society has scheduled a birding field trip at Fort Island Trail Beach for Sunday, February 5, 2012. The public is welcome to attend. Preregistration is not necessary and participants with all levels of birding skills are welcome.
This field trip is managed by CCAS members . It begins at 8:30 am , will involve some easy walking, and will last about 3 hours. Due to tide conditions we will meet at Fort Island Trail Park instead of the beach area.
Fort Island Trail Beach, the only public beach on the Gulf of Mexico in Citrus County, is a small sandy beach located at the end of the scenic Fort Island Trail road in Crystal River. It is listed as a birding location in the Great Florida Birding Trail network. In addition to being a great place to see beautiful sunsets, it is also a terrific place to observe a wide variety of shore birds including gulls, terns, skimmers, sandpipers, plovers, and more.
