Emeralda Marsh Field Trip

     Citrus County Audubon Society has scheduled a birding field trip at Emeralda Marsh northeast of Leesburg for Friday, March 23, 2012. The public is welcome to attend. Preregistration is not necessary and participants with all levels of birding skills are welcome.
     This field trip is led by CCAS members Fred Hileman & Tom Gulley. It begins at 8:00 am, will be driving and easy walking and will last about 2-3 hours.
     Emeralda Marsh is known for its varying habitats and 7,089-acre size. The marsh is a favorite for birding because of its diverse and immense habitats that are favorites of migrating birds. Its 4.3-mile wildlife drive is one of the things that separates this conservation area from other wildlife preserves.  Built on dikes in the marsh, the drive provides unbelievable access to interior wetland habitats.
     Some of the unusual birds we hope to see include: Purple Martin, Orange-crowned Warbler, Ring-necked Duck, Purple Gallinule, Northern Flicker, Painted Bunting, Greater Scaup, Red-tailed Hawk, and Marsh Wren.
