Fort Island Beach

Citrus County Audubon Society has scheduled a birding field trip at Fort Island Trail Beach for Saturday, February 2, 2013. The public is welcome to attend. Preregistration is not necessary and participants with all levels of birding skills are welcome.

It begins at 7:00 am, will involve some easy walking, and will 3-4 hours. Bring binoculars and/or scopes, bug spray, etc.

Fort Island Trail Beach, the only public beach on the Gulf of Mexico in Citrus County, is a small sandy beach located at the end of the scenic Fort Island Trail road in Crystal River. It is listed as a birding location in the Great Florida Birding Trail network. In addition to being a great place to see beautiful sunsets, it is also a terrific place to observe a wide variety of shore birds including gulls, terns, skimmers, sandpipers, plovers, and more.
