CCAS will conduct the
113th Christmas Bird Count
all day on Friday, January 4, 2013
Thank you for your interest in the CBC. This is the 113th year that citizens all over North America will have joined together to make a contribution to better our understanding of our birds. Participating in this all-day event is a very rewarding way to contribute to the effort.
All individuals, regardless of birding skill levels, are welcome to join the count.
Your participantion is needed to insure the complete success of the CBC. Since we have 10 sections in our count area, we need 10 team cars with four counters each. Ideally the teams will consist of a driver, a recorder, and two spotters. All team members will participate in counting birds.
We will have two organizational meetings and a compilation party.
All participants are requested to attend at least one of the organizational meetings. These meeting will be held on December 15 and December 22--both at 3 pm. Maps and documents will be distributed at the meetings.
Just after sundown on the count day (January 4) we will gather to have a compilation party courtesy of CCAS. All teams are expected to participate in this important part of the CBC.
Both the organizational meetings and the compilation party will be held at the Central Ridge Community Center, #1 Civic Circle, Beverly Hills, Fl. 34465. That is the small building on the north side of Circle Drive where it joins Beverly Hills Blvd.
The CBC is now FREE!
After nearly two years of internal discussions, budget modeling, head-scratching, and intense decision-making at National Audubon, two major changes will come to the Christmas Bird Count program effective with the upcoming 113th CBC.
First, the CBC is now a free program. Audubon will no longer charge the $5.00 fee of field participants.
Second, to minimize the effects of the loss of fee income, American Birds will no longer be printed on paper and mailed to participants, and Audubon will move to an online delivery of the summary results of the CBC.
